Had to put it into use at the weekend, severe choking at a restaurant followed the steps with the back blows but had to result to abdominal thrusts which thankfully worked first time! As you can see the children loved it and I have to say, even as an adult I’ve learnt some things too.  One thing that did amaze me is the things that people waste the emergency services time for!

Pupils from Sutton Coldfield’s St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School have received life-saving first aid training as part of an initiative sponsored by construction and infrastructure company Morgan Sindall.

Chris from Paramedical First Aid Training  delivered four engaging sessions to the school’s Key Stage 2 pupils.

The talks and training included guidance on how and when to dial 999, along with an explanation of the dangers of hoax calling and activities set up to reinforce the learning.

Gerry O’Hara, school principal, commented:

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the children in our school to develop an understanding of first aid. The training will help the children develop a range of skills to benefit themselves and potentially provide crucial help during an emergency situation, or even save someone’s life. We are extremely proud of all of the children involved.”

We are delivering the next Childrens First Aid workshop on 9th July St Nicholas Church, Allestree, Derby. How and when  to dial 999,  and place an adult into the recovery position.

Would your child know how or when to ring 999 if they found you injured, unconscious or unwell? Could they put you, an adult into the recovery position and maybe save yours or someone else’s life?

This one hour session delivered by frontline Paramedics will teach your child how and when to dial 999,  the dangers of making hoax/ inappropriate calls to the emergency services, including example’s of  real life calls made and includes a special guest visit of a Ambulance control dispatcher. The session is delivered in a relaxed and fun environment, including learning through games and play.

At just £5 per child this fantastic session is a must for children who can learn skills that will be invaluable to them in the home, when with friends or at school.
